West Sound quilters activities...
West Sound Quilters hosts retreats in November and March each year at Seabeck Conference Center. Mini-groups also host retreats throughout the year at a variety of venues.
There are more than a dozen mini-groups within our guild. Some are just a group of close friends. Others have a focal purpose such as applique', wearable arts, long-arm quilting or machine embroidery.
There is at least one annual Challenge, different every year.
There is a block-of-the-month (BOM) program these days. You create a block (or blocks) from specific instructions, then each month's participants are in a raffle to win the whole bunch of blocks that members produce, often more than enough to create a whole quilt! Some months, there might be a "stash builder" instead of a BOM; participants might bring in a yard of a particular theme fabric (e.g., batiks) cut into handy sizes, then everyone goes home with a bag of a great assortment of that theme.
We regularly bring in nationally known artists for programs during our monthly meetings. Sometimes these artists also provide classes in their particular expertise.
To sustain our level of desired activities, we also raise money by raffling off a professionally-finished quilt. Members are expected to sell or buy at least $10 worth of $1 tickets. See this year's raffle quilt here.
